Love
One recent evening, Aki and I were with our little boy at a neighborhood park. I was carrying him on my back as we walked. A birthday party was ending. The evening sun poured through the trees the way it does.
My little boy rested his head on my shoulder for a second as we walked, and I looked at Aki, and looked at the sun, and didn't want anything else.
Parents have been loving each other and loving their children for a long, long time, so there isn't much opportunity for originality. Love is, at some abstraction, just chemistry. Loving your child is normally automatic. Yet every love is special. For me, our automatic capacity and need for love doesn't diminish love, but makes it a greater thing. People without love would not be people. Love is part of who we are.
