Cloud Computing
Cloud computing: renting computational time over the internet. It's cheap and highly scalable. This is how businesses will use computers in the future. Many companies are already doing it.
Computational biologists often need large amounts of computer power. Cloud computing is great for scientific computing, including computational biology.
Below are some presentations I've made on cloud computing. (The presentations are several megabytes each.)
A presetation for Dave Goodlett's Mass Spectrometry course on biomarkers and cloud computing, May, 2011 [PPT]
My presetation from the WBBA Health Information Technology panel, August 2010 [PPT] [PDF, lacks animations]
An invited presentation I gave in mid-2010 on cloud computing at a workshop sponsored by the National Human Genome Research Institute, part of the NIH.
